Composed by Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Eddie Holland. Recorded by the Four Tops for their album, titled ‘Four Tops Second Album’. Rolling Stone Magazine placed the song at No.415 on its list of Greatest Songs of All Time. It reached No.1 on the Billboard R&B Chart in the USA. It also reached No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for two non-consecutive weeks. Billboard ranked the single as the No.2 song for 1965. In the UK it was the Four Tops first Top 40 single, peaking at No.23. A reissue in 1970 saw the song return to the UK Chart, reaching No.10. The composers were a songwriting team who wrote many songs for Motown and helped define the sound of Motown in the 1960s.
